I had a wonderful session with the ever so talented Shannon! I met Shannon about 3 years ago when I was doing some photography work for The Tobacco Company. However now she has moved on to bigger and exciting things! She has started her own Company called Lemon Umbrella! Lemon Umbrella provides small business owners, who have limited time and resources, with ideas and strategies that can be easily executed in order to grow. So needless to say she is way more social media savvy than myself. If you or you know someone that has a business in need please check her out! http://lemonumbrella.com

Our photo session was dealing with new photos for her site as well as social media. Here are just some of the GORGEOUS images from our session!

RVA United Video

This is a video project Images in Play has been working on for months and it has turned out awesome! I was contacted by my dear friend Lee Mitchell who is part of RVA United. He needed a video to promote RVA United. I guess I should explain what RVA United is so, I will take a quote from their website…

“RVA United is a city-wide outreach of 20-30 somethings who want to worship the living God, study His word, and serve together. On a typical night, an United service consists of authentic vertical worship, a message that challenges you to live out the scriptures, and extended prayer time.”

At first I didn’t have a clue what to expect, but Lee told me to show up for one of their set-up/sound checks, which happens on a Sunday. Tuesday would be the worship service. I must say, a lot of hard work goes into RVA United but you have to be there to experience all the passion that goes on behind the scenes. I met Dave Allam, who is one of the worship leaders of RVA United, and he had a ton of great ideas for the video. Just talking to him got me excited to work on this video project!

I recruited Jason Parks, one of the best DP’s in town to help me with shooting and lighting. Together we filmed & photographed 2 sound checks and 3 Tuesday night worship services and then I went solo to film a service day project, which also was pretty awesome! After compiling all of our video footage and interview footage it was time to find an editor.

Now, usually I edit most of my own projects, but this time I needed a touch of help and Jason suggested Bryce. He is a great guy and the man has got skills! So it made it easy to breakdown the edit with him and make this project sing!  Everyone put in a ton of hard work and long hours behind cameras and editing desks and I am super proud of the end product.

Thanks to the team at RVA United for having Images in Play create these videos!  Shout outs to Lee, Dave and Whitney for all your help with the interviews and to Jason and Bryce the best DP and Editor a gal could ask for ! 🙂

A Sweet Ride

This past Saturday I was asked to photograph something a little different. My dear friend from my old job,Paul ,has a sweet ’67 Gold Pontiac and he needed some photos of it for his car club and magazines. Also, one of the magazines sometimes features Pin-Up girls with the cars. I was tickled pink at the opportunity! I quickly did my research and Goggled pin-up girls and old car photographs. I even sent Oletha ,our model , aYouTube video on Pin Up girl hairstyles and make-up tips. Oletha and I even had phone conversations about different clothing options and she did a wonderful job!

Next, I had to find a location for our session. After looking for old gas stations and barns with no luck, I decided to call my friend Danny. Danny always has good ideas and he knows people. Come to find out he had a cousin with a barn out in the Old Church area. After scouting the location ,I decided it was perfect! The day I went to look at the barn a huge rainbow was overhead! That was my sign! Thanks CT for letting us use your farm for our shoot!

Thanks Paul for having me photograph your ‘sweet’ car and thanks Oletha for being an awesome model for our shoot! Here are some of my favorites from the session.

Illustrator Jon Casey

About a month or so ago I received a bubbly email from my friend Jon Casey! He is a artist who lives out in San Francisco and his Mom was my 4th grade teacher. Side note: that was the only grade I got straight A’s in. HA! Anyway…he  makes his living as a illustrator and is one of the best! He had received an invitation form Corel to create a 5-8 minute short documentary about his life as an artist and how he uses the Corel Painter Program. Now usually, when anyone asks me to piece together and edit a video  it’s a wedding, music video, web content or acting demo reel. So, I was ready for the challenge!

I was pretty stoked and happy because I thought I would be flying to San Francisco to film Jon. Sadly, the budget wasn’t enough to fly me there . No matter, I still wanted in on the project. I got to work! Scripting the outline for the shots and crafting the interview questions. I have to admit it might have seemed crazy to Jon when he got a 6 page .PDF on how I wanted the interview to look , how to ask the questions and then the type of  B-roll I wanted. But HEY! I had a vision of how it would look and since I couldn’t be there myself, I wanted as much footage as I could get. I even filmed myself on my iphone walking Jon threw the shots and how I wanted them to look. Yeah ,maybe I am a little nutty.

Thank goodness Jon had some awesome friends with all sorts of talents! He recruited Matthew Scott and Tony Gonzalez to shoot the interview and studio B-roll. Matthew and I spoke on the phone and he put me at ease when we talked about the video. It’s nerve wracking when you can’t film something yourself! After checking out Matthew’s site, I was blown away by his amazing photography. Tony even gave me some pointers on how to deal with the sound and I was pleased with the quality of the footage that was sent to me.

Jon also had some gal pals shoot the SF city footage that I needed. Kimberly Bainum and Marcella Gries did a wonderful job recreating the shots that I had sent Jon via iPhone, plus more!  Got to love girls that know how to shoot! Thanks gals!

Props have to go out to  Nathaniel, the designer from Canada! His emails back and forth to me were filled with sayings like Ahoy! Cheers!, along with talk about internet robots! This made my long days and  nights of editing cheerful.  We had a Skype video chat and this guy knows his stuff! So hats off to Nathaniel,  for working with me and creating a brilliant way of handling the typography for the credits and title. I hope to work with him again soon!

Last, I would like to thank Jon for coming to me with this project. I know you put in a lot of late nights and own pocket money on this video. I think we both can agree that it was totally worth it! I am very proud of the final product and can”t wait to see how “the video will live in the wild!” (a quote from Nathaniel). Thank you Jon and I can’t wait for the next project !

Without further Internet space being wasted, HERE IT IS!  Please pass this on to your friends, enemies, whoever you think might give it a few minutes of their day. It’s enjoyable to see how Jon the artist, illustrator ,caricaturist  and cool human being works and lives !
